The autumn season is open

Early September in the botanical garden hardly feels different from late summer: the arboretum remains green, with bright splashes of color only in the rose garden. In the collection areas, annuals are still in bloom, especially the vibrant cosmos and sunflowers. In the medicinal plant section, visitors are greeted by the soft blue haze of Perovskia, and in some places, the late-blooming onion heads can be spotted.

During September and October, ornamental grasses dominate among the herbaceous plants: Miscanthus, adorned with fluffy white and pale lilac flower spikes, stand proudly. Graceful millet follows suit, and blue sorghum boasts its striking golden spikes. Adding to this picturesque scene are other exotic grasses, such as sporobolus, elephant grass, and Schizachyrium.

By October, trees and shrubs begin to don their autumnal colors. A beautiful blend of yellow, orange, red, and burgundy delights the eye. Even some conifers, like larch and dawn redwood, dress in golden hues.
In the rock garden and rockeries, against the calm green and silvery tones of the junipers, the fiery leaves of Japanese maples, barberries, and the bright berries of cotoneasters stand out.
And October is also the season of chrysanthemums and perennial asters.

By November, the colors begin to fade, plants prepare for winter rest, and evergreen conifers take center stage.
